Celebrate your love of reading and join us at the South Sound Reading Foundation's Annual Books by the Bay! At the beautiful Olympia Country Club, you can meet our featured authors, purchase signed copies of their books, enjoy fabulous music, food and fun all while helping us get more books into the hands of kids in our community!

Meet this year's authors

Thor Hansen

Thor Hanson, Author and Biologist

Author and biologist Thor Hanson is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Switzer Environmental Fellow, and winner of the John Burroughs Medal. His many books include Close to Home, Buzz, Feathers, and the children’s favorite Star and the Maestro. Thor’s work has been translated into a dozen languages and earned many accolades, including the Phi Beta Kappa Award in Science and three Pacific Northwest Book Awards. He co-hosted the PBS Nature series American Spring Live, and has appeared on programs ranging from Fresh Air to Science Friday, and WIRED Currents. Hanson lives with his family on an island in the Pacific Northwest.

Matt Kracht, Author and Illustrator

MATT KRACHT is a professional birding amateur, writer, and illustrator who enjoys creating books that celebrate the humor inherent in life's absurdities. He is the author of the bestselling The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America, The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World, The Big Dumb Bird Journal, The Field Guide to Dumb Birds Sticker Book, and in an enthusiastic change of pace, OMFG BEES! Based in Tacoma, Washington, he enjoys gazing out the window at the beautiful waters of Puget Sound and making fun of birds.
